Teaching / Research Focus: Multi-scale modeling in thermal and fluid sciences, numerical methods in moving boundaries, micro-scale experiments of transport phenomena in solidification, and energy systems and controls

Bio Sketch: Dr. Ying Sun received her B.Eng. degree in Thermal Engineering from Tsinghua University in China, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from University of Iowa. Her current research is to develop micro-scale, diffuse interface models for transport phenomena in multiphase flows and solidification with applications in materials processing, energy and biological systems. Dr. Sun was a visiting scholar at RWTH-Aachen, Germany. She also worked in the area of energy systems and controls both in industry and at the Iowa Energy Center. Dr. Sun is a member of ASME, TMS, and APS.
