Twyman-Green Interferometry

Optical Measuring Technique

Twyman-Green Interferometry

Used to measure Out of Plane deformation measurements. It uses a 10.6µm CO 2 laser as coherent light source and has a sensitivity of 5.3 microns . Also the real time deformation measurements are done using an environmental chamber. The high sensitivity of He-Ne Twyman Green Interferometer is reduced and made applicable to the majority of deformation measurements by using a higher wavelength CO2 laser

Improvements in the new system are that sensitivity of our interest can be achieved using C02 laser. Specimen need not have a perfectly specular surface as before and the field of voew is increased using the diameter of collimated beam.

A beam of collimated monochromatic CO 2 laser hits the beam splitter. Interference occurs between the beams reflected from the specimen surface and the reference mirror. An IR camera captures the image The fringes are analyzed using a computer.
